What is Platelet-Rich Plasma

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a form of healing therapy that involves injection of the patient’s own platelets for the cosmetic treatment of face, arms, neck and scalp. Also known the “vampire facelift”, PRP is used to heal wrinkles, scars and grow hair.
The process involves giving a small blood sample (about two ounces) that is then separated into an injectable plasma serum that is rich in platelet concentration.
It is then injected to the skin, or scalp, where a mesh layer of fibrin is formed, along with a variety of growth factors. What happens is that the body gets tricked into thinking that it needs to energize that area because a thick layer of dermis forms, or hair follicles revive, as a result of the new collagen created from the growth factors.
PRP is less invasive than plastic surgery and just takes about twenty minutes for each treatment and results last for up to 18 months. In terms of cost, it equals the amount you would pay for dermal fillers and can range from $150 to $600 per treatment.
