Four 2018 Skin Resolutions

With the new year comes new year’s resolutions. That could mean eating healthier, exercising more, reading more books, or traveling more often. But what about your skin? You should also include your new year skin resolutions alongside the rest of the things you are planning to start or do more of. Having better-looking skin in 2018 is an embodiment of the “new year, new me” mantra.
Here are four skincare resolutions you should do in 2018:
1. Using more sunscreen – This means that using sunscreen not just at the beach, but whenever you go outside. The sun’s harmful UV rays have been proven to be a cause of melanoma and other potentially deadly skin cancers. One of your first lines of protection against the effects of UV rays is sunscreen. Use a broad spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 15 (this SPF level blocks at least 93% of UVB radiation). Remember to re-apply every four hours – applying sunscreen is not a one-and-done thing.
2. Checking Your Skin Regularly – A skin check is the visual examination of your skin to look for any odd-looking moles, blemishes, or lesions. You can do this in front of a bathroom mirror while holding a handheld one so you can look at areas like your back or behind your legs. Remember to check every nook and cranny, including your scalp, behind your ears, between your fingers and also on the soles of your feet. Keep track of your moles to see if they have suddenly increased in size or changed in appearance.
3. Developing a Nighttime Skincare Routine – Washing your face before going to bed is not enough. Your skin’s healing mechanisms kick into high gear when you sleep, so what better way to enhance healing than by using products that help supplement it. You can find more information about a nighttime skincare routine here.
4. Visiting your Dermatologist Regularly – A lot of people only visit their doctors when something’s wrong with their body. This is not entirely the case with dermatologists, as they offer more than just medical services, but also cosmetic treatments that can enhance your skin’s appearance. Whether you want your wrinkles gone, or your blemishes to disappear, or if you want those pesky pimples eliminated, a simple conversation with your dermatologist can definitely help. He or she can also recommend products that are tailored exactly for what results you’re looking for and that are compatible with your skin type.
